Shock at Luke Mitchell YouTube video

A Midlothian MSP is “surprised” that prison bosses allowed convicted murderer Luke Mitchell to post a lie detector video on the internet.

Officials at Shotts Prison gave permission for the 24-year-old to publish footage of himself passing a lie detector test on YouTube in which he denied killing his girlfriend Jodi in 2003 when they were both aged 14.

MSP Colin Beattie (SNP) told the Advertiser: “I’m surprised because he has been through appeals before and it was deemed that there was insufficient evidence to progress them.

“A lie detector test is not 100 per cent accurate and cannot be used as evidence in court.

“If there is the slightest doubt about his guilt that should be progressed, however he has had several opportunities to bring forward fresh evidence and in every incidence he has failed.”
