A brother and sister found dead in their home at Royal Court in Penicuik last week may have lain undiscovered since July, it has emerged.
The Advertiser has learned that the most up to date items of food inside the home of John Guthrie (78) and Williamina Thomson (80) were dated July.
Neighbours of the pair, whose bodies were discovered on Monday last week, had not seen them in months.
Their deaths are not being treated as suspicious.
It is understood that the house-bound widow, who suffered from arthritis, passed away after her brother and sole carer died, leaving her alone.
The siblings hailed from the Shetland isle of Yell.
