Sick Kids GP is useful cure

A GP based at the Sick Kids hospital in Edinburgh has helped reduce accident and emergency waiting times.

Health chiefs decided to install the doctor to deal with less serious cases, freeing up staff to deal with more seriously ill youngsters.

That has led to bosses hitting targets at the Sciennes hospital.

Parents feel their children are being treated in the best possible setting, while not wasting the time of medics who could be working on more urgent cases.

NHS Lothian’s director of public health Dr Alison McCallum said: “The pilot scheme has been very positive.”
