Midlothian Council is refusing to disclose whether it will seek to recover an ‘overspend’ of public money on a football club car park.
The authority has been accused of hiding behind a police investigation as it remains tight-lipped over cash paid to Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic Junior Football Club.
In 2008, £37,500 was awarded from the council-managed Gourlaw Coal Regeneration Fund.
This was to be match-funded by the club to create a car park for use by supporters on match days and by the public at all other times.
But the public will not benefit as the council won’t adopt the car park – describing it as in “no fit state” to be used.
