Pupils at Mayfield’s three primary schools have chosen the best boys and girls for this year’s Mayfield and Easthouses Gala Day, which takes place on Saturday.
A boy and girl from the primary seven classes of Lawfield, Mayfield and St Luke’s will represent their schools, with their homes set to be transformed to mark the occasion.
Unlike other local galas, the big day at Mayfield Park has featured best boys and girls since the event returned in 1989, instead of the traditional gala day king and queen.
Robert Hogg, chairman of Mayfield and Easthouses Community Association, which runs the gala day, said: “It’s a great day for them and their families. It’s a big occasion.
“We try to make it a special day for them, they each get a certificate and vouchers.
“We create banners for each of the kids’ houses then the families put them up and decorate the outsides of their homes too.
“Most families have a barbecue after it with extended family and friends to celebrate.”
As for the event itself, Robert added: “Hopefully we get a bit of sunshine.
“Folk always turn up in their thousands. We always have a good parade and it will be no different this year.
“I’m just looking forward to everyone having fun and the local community groups in attendance raising funds.”
Mayfield and Easthouses Gala Day, Mayfield Park, 1.30pm-4.30pm on Saturday. The parade leaves Easthouses Miners’ Club at 1pm and heads to the park.
