AUTHOR Helen Hendry and artist Doreen Cullen have put a modern spin on the tale of the tortoise and the hare.
“Slowly Wins The Day” marks the duo’s publication debut, while Helen’s search for a publisher and Doreen’s strength in overcoming disability match the persistence and tenacity shown by the ‘slower’ character in the famous fable.
Helen (48), a podiatrist from Corstorphine, created the character of Slowly to encourage children to take exercise.
She said: “Doreen is one of my patients at the clinic in Penicuik, and I knew that she was a terrific illustrator.
“When she sends a note to you, she’ll always write in beautiful italics and add a little picture.”
