Special needs charity raffle prizes stolen

The culprits broke into a car in a driveway in Badger Park in Broxburn, West Lothian, between 1am and 4am on Thursday.

Various prizes intended to raise money for the Yellow Teapot Club at its annual race night, including wine, chocolates, toiletries and candles, were stolen during the raid. The race night took place last night at Pumpherston Bowling Club.

A club spokeswoman said: “It’s upsetting but it won’t stop us from going ahead. Although we do receive some money from big companies, it’s vital that we raise our own funds to keep the club going.”

The club, based at Uphall Community Centre, caters for youngsters with special needs and disabilities between the ages of six and 16.

More than 20 youngsters with conditions including Down’s Syndrome and autism attend the popular club, which hosts visits to ten pin bowling, swimming and other events.

A police spokesman said: “This opportunistic theft has resulted in items intended for use at a charity raffle being stolen and the charity being left out of pocket. Staff at the Yellow Teapot Club have been left devastated and are desperate to have them returned.”
