Speed camera theft on A68

SPEED cameras have been stolen from the same road where three Buddhist monks died in a horrific car crash on Christmas Eve.

Officers are investigating the theft of three cameras on the A68 about 15 miles south of the accident site.

The cameras – worth about £30,000 – were sawn from their mountings in the past two months and no trace of them has been found.

Police said the cameras were introduced because of the history of serious accidents on the trunk route.

In October, cameras were stolen from Earlston and near Oxton. Earlier this month, a third camera was stolen at Newtown St Boswells.

Lothian and Borders Police said they have increased patrols in the area and the missing cameras would be replaced.
