Squaddies run canal to raise £2000

SQUADDIES from the 2 SCOTS battalion ran the length of the Forth & Clyde Canal from Edinburgh to Glasgow in a bid to raise vital funds towards the care of Scotland’s veterans.

Around 25 soldiers from Glencourse Barracks in Penicuik took it in turns to complete the relay race in aid of the veterans’ charity Erskine.

Their sterling efforts raised £2000 towards Erskine, which runs a care home in Gilmerton. The soldiers were welcomed over the finish line by Erskine veterans and staff following the gruelling run.

John Fyfe, Erskine’s East of Scotland fundraiser, said: “This was an incredible challenge that the soldiers from 2 SCOTS undertook.

“It is a fantastic result that they managed to raise £2000, as this will go a long way to helping Erskine care for veterans, young and old, across Scotland.

“We are all thrilled that their fundraising efforts proved to be such a success.”
