Storm closes Midlothian Snowsport Centre

Midlothian is taking stock of any damage caused by last night’s storm battering the county.

Midlothian Council reports that the snowsport centre at Hillend is closed this morning (Friday) due to the high winds.

Lawfield Primary are rerouting people heading to the school to avoid an area sectioned off because of solar panel and wind turbine damage.

Parents have been texted to inform them of the safe way to school. Staff are also stationed at various points around the school to make sure everything heading to the school takes the safe route.

A council maintenance team is out assessing the damage and has made area safe.

At Hillend, a rope has come off the chairlift. There are some trees down on nursery slope 3, damage to the jump slope, a lamppost down up the hill and several different astro turf areas have been ripped off.

Midlothian Council is to carry our repairs and all areas will be made safe prior to reopening.

The council reports no major problems on its roads.

There have been some fallen trees and branches, which will be cleared. Motorists are asked to drive carefully.
