Following a campaign in Gorebridge a new street is to be named after the man who helped capture child killer Robert Black .
A street at the new Greenhall development in Gorebridge will be called David Herkes Way, after the man whose quick thinking in July 1990 led to the capture of serial killer Black, saving the life of his Stow neighbour’s six-year-old daughter. Mr Herkes passed away in 2012, aged 75.
Gorebridge bus driver Gary Forbes (47), was behind the street-naming campaign.
He said: “Folk are over the moon about it. They are getting a street named after one of their own. The council have listened to the community, which is great.”
Midlothian Council Provost Joe Wallace said: “The decision to name one of the new roads in Gorebridge ‘David Herkes Way’ is a fitting tribute to a universally popular and respected member of the local community.”
