Students give universities tough marks in quality test

STUDENTS at three of the four universities in Edinburgh have given their institutions lower approval ratings than the national average, according to a new survey by the National Union of Students.

Heriot-Watt University scored 86 per cent approval rating, while Edinburgh University came in second with 85 per cent.

Edinburgh Napier University scored 83 per cent while Queen Margaret University had the lowest rating of 78 per cent.

Three of the four were lower than the Scottish average of 86 per cent, although QMU was the only one significantly lower.

Scotland-wide, overall satisfaction with feedback on coursework remained low, with just over half of students believed it was prompt.

58 per cent felt they received enough detailed comments on their work, and 57 per cent felt the feedback on their work had helped them clarify things they did not understand.
