Tale of two Ians in Penicuik

Penicuik Folk Club is to serve up a musical treat next week when Ian Walker and Ian Bruce perform.

The duo will take to the stage at the Roadhouse public house, John Street, Penicuik, at 8pm.

For tickets, contact the folk club on 01968 675521 or check www.penicuikfolk.org.uk

The pair played together as a duo between 1987 and 1991 during which they wrote many songs.

They are collaborating together after many years.

The singer/songwriters both hail from Glasgow. An aficionado of Robert Burns, Ian Bruce is as popular in Germany as he is in Scotland.

His most recent album, Above Wild Water, is a collaboration with Victor Besch and was released last month.

Award-winning Ian Walker, who also performs with Jimmy Scott as Vangel, has developed songwriting by visiting schools and older people in communities through the New Makar Trust. On the success of last year’s album, Singing the River, he was nominated in the British Country Music Awards.

David Begg from the folk club, said: “We are looking forward hugely to this gig – full of nostalgia, new songs, great voices and mighty banter.

“They thrive on audiences who enjoy singing along so they’ll be completely at home in Penicuik.”

The folk club meets every Tuesday (except concert nights) for a free song/tune session from 8.30pm.
