Tapestries to weave magic

TWO tapestries inspired by the only surviving letters with direct connections to William Wallace will today be cut from their looms by Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop.

The bespoke tapestries will form a backdrop to an exhibition of the letters in the Scottish Parliament next month.

Ms Hyslop will be at Dovecot Studios in Infirmary Street to meet the skilled weavers who have crafted the tapestries to a design inspired by the intricate lettering and historic parchment of the 700-year-old documents, before cutting the tapestries from their looms.

The tapestries were commissioned by National Records of Scotland.
