With no Glastonbury this year, rain-seeking music fans must look elsewhere for their muddy kicks.

Fortunately for them – and for those of us who prefer to catch the action from the warm, dry comfort of our sofas – the Isle of Wight Festival is now upon us.

This first instalment in a series of mammoth highlight shows features the best of the first day’s performances.

There’s the headlining set by veteran American rockers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, which is reason enough for tuning in, but diversity is the name of this festival’s game, so there’s plenty here for everyone.

Acts set to take to the main stage include Elbow, Example, Feeder and Noah & the Whale, while Enter Shikari, Kelis, Lana del Rey, Caro Emerald, Best Coast, Crystal Castles and DJ Fresh are among the day’s other performers. Zoe Ball and Jo Whiley share presenting duties, keeping us abreast of all the best acts.
