What’s It All About? Is ITV on a mission to convince us that we really don’t want to be beside the seaside this summer?
Hot on the heels of Broadchurch comes another beach-based murder mystery, this time set in Brighton. And despite the jaunty title, it’s definitely not a sunny story.
The three-part series focuses on Poppy Carlisle and Serena Gorringe, who as teenagers were briefly friends during the summer of 1995, until they were accused of killing teacher Marcus Halnsley. Poppy was convicted, while her former friend was free to leave the past behind her by going to university, getting married and starting a new life in Leeds.
But 17 years later, the two women are going to be forced to confront their shared history.
Serena (Lorraine Burroughs) is back in her home town for the first time since that fateful summer to care for her dying mother, and finds it stirs up memories of her secret affair with Marcus (Martin Compston). Meanwhile, Poppy (Jodhi May), who has always protested her innocence, has just been released from prison.
