Arniston finished up with 10 men following the 85th minute dismissal of Michael Deland as Jock Landells’ men had a nailbiting finish before securing a hard-earned point against Tayport at Newbyres Park.

In a ding-dong battle in testing weather conditions, Tayport mounted some early pressure which ended up in the clutches of deputy keeper Andy Ritchie in the absence of regular No.1 Dale Cornet.

Arniston’s reply saw Danny Thomson caught offide in the visitors’ trap after being set up by Lumbert Kateleza.

Andy Ritchie was busy in the home goals, punching out a Tayport corner and, just after Lumbo had hit wide, it was the 13th unlucky minute for the visitors that saw referee Peter Stewart award Arniston a penalty for a Craig Sturrock challenge on Lumbo.

Greg Callaghan made no mistake from the resultant spot-kick to put Arnie 1-0 ahead with their 11th goal of the season.

Arniston were forced into a change ten minutes before the break as David Jeffrey, who took a knock earlier on, was forced to leave the field, with substitute Kieron Watson coming on.

The half finished with a booking for dissent for Tayport’s John Ovenstone before a Jamie Mackie header hit the Arnie side net.

However, it was 1-1 just five minutes into the second half as a determined Tayport equalised from a stunning Jamie Mackie free-kick that squeezed into the net at Ritchie’s right-hand corner.

Arniston struggled for a spell after that as another crucial Deland tackle halted Allan Tulleth, before, in 55 minutes, Deland was booked for a foul on Kieron Conway.

Deland was shown a second yellow five minutes from time for a challenge by that saw him red-carded, and 10-man Arnie struggled to the finishing line for a draw, with Ritchie again proving a hero with a stunning save deep in injury-time.
