Time running out to nominate Local Heroes

Many have shown exceptional courage, battled through adversity or gone above and beyond in the line of duty.

Others have made a profound difference by carrying out a brave act from the kindness of their own heart or have made personal sacrifices to care for a friend or family member.

And there is just one day left to nominate these unsung heroes for an accolade at this year’s Local Hero Awards, Euan McGrory, deputy editor of the Edinburgh Evening News, is encouraging those who may be thinking about it to get their recommendations in fast.

He said: “The Local Hero Awards has become one of the highlights of the Capital’s social calendar and an event which many people look forward to immensely.

“It is always a wonderful night when these true local heroes get the star treatment that they so richly deserve.

“Don’t miss your chance to see your community heroes honoured in style.”

This year, more than 300 guests will gather in the Assembly Rooms on George Street to welcome the winners to the stage.

The event, which will be hosted by Radio Forth DJ Grant Stott, will take place on Friday May 27.

The Evening News is determined to show the city’s unsung heroes that their bravery and hard work has not gone unnoticed, and is encouraging residents across Edinburgh and the Lothians to nominate if they know someone worthy of an award.

The nominee could be a person who has realised their dreams with jaw-dropping determination or someone who has inspired you to achieve your own goals.
