Tom Daley set for Edinburgh Commonwealth Pool

Olympic star Tom Daley will lead the British diving team at next month’s world series competition in Edinburgh.

The 18-year-old confirmed today he would be making his return to international competition at the Royal Commonwealth Pool, marking his first outing since winning bronze in London last year.

Daley will compete in the men’s 10m individual and is likely to square off against rival Qui Bo from China.

The Edinburgh leg of the FINA Diving World Series is running from April 19-21.

The eight-strong British contingent also includes Olympic finalists Chris Mears, Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow.

Daley said: “At the beginning of the year my coaches and I decided that I wouldn’t compete in all six legs of the World Series. Along with Andy and Alexei, we have chosen the most important competitions for me to focus on.

“This event is going to be used as part of the qualification for the worlds, so I am looking to put in a good performance in Edinburgh.

“I’m really looking forward to the World Championships this year, which is the first major competition for me after the Olympics. It will be a challenge because Bo has always performed well at this level, but I am working hard and I will see what I can do.

“I’m really excited to be getting back into the competitive season.

“I have never competed in Edinburgh before and from what I have seen the pool looks great. It is exciting to think that this pool will be used for the Commonwealth Games. It is always good to have the support from your home crowd and that definitely inspired me in London and I hope it will inspire the whole team in Edinburgh too.”
