First-year apprentice bricklayer Jed Smith, who works at Taylor Wimpey’s Cameron Gardens development, Bilston, has taken first place in the first-year apprentice bricklayer category at Skillbuild 2015.

Jed (20) is one of two young apprentices who secured a four-year Modern Day Apprenticeship at Taylor Wimpey following his participation in the “Get into Home Building” pilot programme last year.

Working towards gaining his SVQ L3 in Bricklaying, Jed said: “I’m really delighted to have won this award. I’ve always been around the construction industry but it’s exciting to know that I’m now part of it! Having my apprenticeship with Taylor Wimpey is such an amazing opportunity.”

Steven Laurie, production director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, added: “We’re delighted to see first-hand the very high standard of work that Jed produces for us here in the region.”
