TORIES HIT OUT AT LIB DEMS OVER ‘PARTY POLITICAL’ PRESS RELEASE AFTER VOTE

Opposition councillors have lodged an official complaint with city council chief executive Sue Bruce after they claimed an official council press release was used for political point scoring.

Conservative councillor Jason Rust said comments made by council leader Jenny Dawe within a press release issued by the council hours after last week’s tram decision was “overly political”. In the release, Cllr Dawe had said the decision was “heartbreaking” and she said she was “angry” that Labour and Tory councillors had rejected the advice of council officials.

Cllr Rust said: “I find it disappointing and concerning that the council leader has used the council communications team and public resources to effectively try to politically point score and politicise officials. She should save her anger for Lib Dem press releases.

“Although it is noticeable that they keep their anger towards their SNP colleagues privately within their own membership, they are not fooling the public about the lack of trust between the two supposedly governing groups; no wonder there is such a lack of faith.”
