Tram-train interchange to finally open next month

The long-delayed Edinburgh Gateway tram-train interchange is to open on Sunday, December 11 '“ five years after its expected completion.

The £41 million station beside the Gogar roundabout was put back because the tram project was delayed.

It will enable rail passengers to and from Fife and further north to switch to the tram for Edinburgh Airport.

Combined tickets will be available.

The station will be served by four trains an hour and is expected to be used by 500,000-600,000 passengers a year.

However, the number of services stopping at nearby South Gyle will be halved from four to two.

ScotRail Alliance managing director Phil Verster said: “Edinburgh Gateway interchange will be a hugely convenient transport hub for a vast array of customers, bringing new journey opportunities and better connections for people travelling into and around the Capital.”

Network Rail had said it had “aspired” to open it in 2011.
