A video from the scene, seen by the Edinburgh Evening News, showed one man lying on the pavement near the crash site.
Lothian buses tweeted that the road was closed and buses would be diverted from the area, although this diversion is no longer in place.
One eyewitness told the Edinburgh Evening News: Driver and passenger were speeding and undertook a cyclist and went through the traffic lights at the island to avoid hitting the bus as they had lost control due to the speed they were doing.
“Looked about 80mph, they stumbled out after impact.
“Luckily no one was injured except from them”
