A cyclist has been rushed to hospital after a serious crash with a car in Edinburgh’s Newington area, police have confirmed.

The collision occurred early on Monday morning on East Preston Street, which connects Dalkeith Road and Newington Road.

The 24-year-old male cyclist was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Roads have been closed off at the East Preston Street junction with Oxford Street, South Clerk Street at Bernard Terrace, West Preston Street at Causewayside and Newington Road at Salisbury Place.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We were called around 6.30am to a report of a serious crash between a car and a cyclist in East Preston Street, Edinburgh.

“The 24-year-old male cyclist was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by the Scottish Ambulance Service.”
