‘Disappointment’ over rail plan reduction

LIVINGSTON Labour MP Graeme Morrice has expressed disappointment at the Scottish Government’s decision to only partly implement plans for the Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP).

EGIP is a programme of major rail improvements, funded by the Scottish Government and delivered by Network Rail. Plans for a £1 billion investment in Scotland’s railways were announced last year with faster, more frequent services being at the heart of the change agenda.

However Mr Morrice said the new plans failed to achieve the promised improvements in journey times and frequency.

“The EGIP presented an opportunity for transformational change in Scottish transport and I am afraid many travellers will be left disappointed by the new plans,” he said.
