Edinburgh weather: here's when snow is forecast for the rest of the week

As Storm Ciara batters much of the UK, here is a look ahead at the weather forecast for Edinburgh.

Weather warnings

In the midst of Storm Ciara, the Met Office has issued four weather warnings for Edinburgh over the coming week.

Forecasters have put a yellow warning in place for snow and and another wind covering both Monday and Tuesday (10 and 11 Feb), advising residents that the expected deluge could cause travel delays and possible power cuts - as well as cancellations to rail and air services.

The Met Office has also issued yellow warnings for snow and ice all day on Wednesday, with locals warned to expect travel delays, and reminded of the risk of injury on ungritted pavements.

Monday (10 Feb)

Edinburgh faces a cold and wet start to the week, with Storm Ciara in full force, temperatures unlikely to rise above 4C, and sleet showers expected all day.

Tuesday (11 Feb)

Tuesday will see the skies over Edinburgh clear somewhat, with occasional breaks of sunshine amid another day of sleet and rain. Pedestrians face strong winds, and temperatures around 3C all day.

Wednesday (12 Feb)

Storm Ciara looks likely to fade on Wednesday, with temperatures rising and wind speeds falling. The rain will end, and the skies will be mostly cloudy with some sunshine.

Thursday will be much calmer than the start of the week, with wind speeds around 9mph, though light rain could return in the late morning. Temperatures could reach a high of 5C.

Friday (14 Feb)

Friday morning will be dry but chilly in the capital. But warmer temperatures of around 7C in the afternoon and evening will be accompanied by outbreaks of rain in some areas.

Saturday (15 Feb)

The warmest day this week, Saturday is also likely to be one of the wettest. Expect rain throughout the day, and strong winds from midday onwards. Temperatures should stay around 9C.

Sunday (16 Feb)

Sunday will be a wet, humid affair with light showers in the morning and temperatures around 9C. At lunchtime, the wind could pick up, reaching speeds of 42 mph, before calming down around 5pm.
