First West Lothian will freeze or cut prices on several routes from Sunday March 15.

Locals could save up to £240 per year as an adult annual ticket within West Lothian will reduce from £820 to £580.

A First Unlimited ticket will drop from £68.40 to £46.70.

Family Day tickets will be reduced from £14 to £9.50.

The company will also simplify its fare structure, with adult single fares now starting from £1.70 and child single fares from 90p.

All weekly, monthly and annual tickets will have the same price for 2-zone travel as for 1-zone travel.

This means Livingston residents will be able to travel to and from Edinburgh for the same price as for travel in and around Livingston.

Graeme MacFarlan, Commercial Director for First Scotland East, said: “From March 15, travel by First West Lothian will be better value than ever before. As well as rewarding our loyal customers, we are keen to encourage more people to opt for leaving their car at home.

"These price drops reflect our commitment to residents in West Lothian, for whom cost effective public transport is a

vital part of everyday life. We are putting them first with this decision.”

The bus company also said it has seen a significant rise in cashless payments in recent months, now accounting for 65 per cent of payments.

One of the largest bus operators in the UK, First Bus has a fleet of over 6,000 and carries 1.6 million passengers a day.

Mr MacFarlan added: “More and more people want to pay using smart devices, or in advance.

"We are responding to customer demand by offering further savings and incentives to those purchasing tickets via the First Bus app and continue to invest heavily in technology.”
