Pothole pain for Eskbank cyclist

An Eskbank cyclist whose elbow was broken after a collision with a pothole sent her hurtling in the air has said she fears someone could be killed due to the state of the roads.

Regular cyclist Agnes Semple (68), of Bonnyrigg Road, was pedalling along a designated cycle route off the B6372 on Castleton Road, with her friend June Cunningham when the accident happened last month.

“The bike just shot across the road with me on it – I went flying in the air,” said Agnes, a retired social care officer. “I broke my elbow, which has now been operated on and is now wired up inside. I also bashed my face, ribs and leg. I was in fact very lucky not to be killed.”
