Roads reopen in Broxburn after torrential flooding

Several roads in West Lothian have reopened after they were blocked by heavy rainfall and flooding across the region last night.
Emergency services spent much of yesterday evacuating local residents from flooded homes in Broxburn.

Hide AdVideo footage shows a family with a young son being taken to safety by firefighters in a dinghy yesterday evening.
In the background, wheelie bins can be seen floating in the floodwater, with cars sitting half-submerged in driveways.
Road closures
According to West Lothian Council, the following roads, which were shut last night, have now reopened to traffic:
•Peniel Place
•Drumshoreland
•RoadBirdsmillKilpunt
•Steading
The Council also said that this morning, the A89, which had been shut between Kilpunt roundabout and the junction with Station Road, has now reopened.

Hide AdElsewhere across Scotland’s central belt, ScotRail warned passengers that while all lines impacted by the heavy rain yesterday were open this morning, some services may have been revised or cancelled.
It urged customers to check their journeys here before travelling.
Recent heavy rain
It comes just two weeks after thunderstorms and heavy rain caused widespread flooding across Scotland, and severely damaged transport links.
Trains between Edinburgh and Glasgow were delayed and rerouted after the thunderstorm damaged overhead cables on the line.

Hide AdAnd the A68 near Fala, Midlothian, was shut by authorities after a landslide caused one half of the carriageway to collapse down the hillside.
The road remains closed while the road is rebuilt.
