Onlookers said the plane has been spotted over Leith and Cortorphine and ventured past Edinburgh Airport three times.

Scott Cuthbertson posted a photo of the flight’s journey from a tracking website on Twitter with the caption: “Anyone know anything about the RAF plane that’s been flying round Edinburgh for the past hour?”

One commenter said the RAF aircraft is likely to be involved in some form of training.

RAF Brize Norton has been contacted for comment.
