There has been significant snow in Midlothian, with gritters out overnight and this morning, joined by teams clearing priority pavements such as in and around NHS centres.

School bus drivers can’t access Lady Brae in Gorebridge for pupils at Newbattle High School or roads between Crichton and Dalkeith taking pupils to the Dalkeith Campus. Midlothian Council buses taking pupils to Saltersgate in Dalkeith, for pupils with additional support needs, are not running today because of the snow.

All priority roads, such as main roads, are open and remain passable, with care.

A Midlothian Council spokesman said: “Schools remain open for vulnerable children and children of key workers.

“If your child is expected to be in school today but you are worried about travelling in the snow and keeping your child at home, please let your school know.

“Community hubs for adult social care clients are closed because of the snow. We will let clients know if Cherry Road in Bonnyrigg is able to open today just as soon as we can.

“Bin collections have been suspended. Please don’t call our contact centre if your bin is not collected. We will have a note of all routes affected and we’ll come back to empty your bin just as soon as it is safe to do so.

“Scots Corner Early Learning Centre will open later at 9am this morning.”
