Vehicle fire shuts Edinburgh bypass causing queues for motorists

One lane has since reopened but traffic is slow around the incident.

A vehicle fire shut the Edinburgh bypass close to the Straiton junction this morning, causing tailbacks and queues for drivers.

Traffic Scotland said the fire started at around 9.50am on the westbound carriageway, causing both lanes to be closed for safety.

At around 10.20am, the second lane on the westbound carriageway had reopened but one lane remained closed.

Traffic Scotland added on Twitter that traffic was slow from before Lasswade going westbound, with tailbacks towards Lothianburn on the eastbound side of the bypass.

It is not known if anyone was hurt in the incident.
