Two killed as rock festival bus crashes

TWO people have been killed and 15 others injured after a bus travelling from Edinburgh to a music festival in the Highlands collided with a van.

The van driver and his passenger died after the crash on the A9 at Ralia at around 3.40pm yesterday, while the bus driver was airlifted to hospital in Glasgow after being cut free from the vehicle.

The victims were named as 37-year-old Alex Russell, of Moodiesburn, Glasgow, and John Sommerville, 34, of Carluke, South Lanarkshire.

Fourteen passengers were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment to a range of injuries, none of which were life-threatening.

Northern Constabulary said there were 47 people on board the bus, including the driver, and that the vehicle was a service bus from Edinburgh bound for the three-day RockNess festival in Dores, on the banks of Loch Ness.
