OAP hospital stays shrink

THE length of stay for an elderly person in hospital in the Lothians has fallen by an average of nearly four days in the last year.

That has allowed more beds to be freed up for new patients.

The improvements have come as part of NHS Lothian’s Lean project, which has also reduced the length of stay in Edinburgh’s stroke wards.

Lean aims to come up with money-saving solutions while also making patient care better.
