Police cordoned off the St James Street Car Park at the town’s harbour as emergency services dealt with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.30am on Thursday, July 30, officers were called to the Port Brae area of Kirkcaldy following a report of suspicious items which required Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) assessment.

"A cordon has been put in place as a precaution and EOD will attend the scene to make it safe."

However, following an assessment of the items, which appeared to be located in the boot of a car, there was found to be no cause for alarm and after the items were checked over, police and the bomb squad team left the scene.

The incident comes after a car caught fire in the same area last Friday. A fire crew from Kirkcaldy arrived quickly and the car was extinguished within half an hour. Luckily no-one was hurt.
