Wall appeal thrown out

A PROPERTY owner has been berated by the Scottish Government for building a partition wall in the bedroom of a listed building.

The city council refused retrospective planning permission for Fenner Austin, who had carried out the work in a flat in Annandale Street.

He appealed to the Scottish Government, but its planning reporter, Ronald Jackson, has backed the local authority.

Dividing a large bedroom is a popular method of adding the number of rooms to a property.

Mr Jackson said: “This unsympathetic sub-division has effectively destroyed the original main bedroom, thereby adversely affecting the internal character of the building.”
