Loanhead Gala Week continues today (Thursday) with the Senior Citizens’ Tea Dance in Loanhead Miners’ Club at 1.30 pm.
Tomorrow (Friday) the children from the town’s three primary schools will assemble in the Memorial Park at 10.30am for a Joint Assembly with musical entertainment provided by Funbox. Following the assembly, free lunch bags will be distributed to the children prior to the commencement of the Children’s Sports in the park commencing at 1pm.
Loanhead’s biggest day of the year is the Children’s Day on Saturday. This is the oldest established local festival in Midlothian.
Loanhead Gala chairman Ross Perfect extends a warm welcome to one and all and hopes that many people from surrounding towns and villages will take the opportunity to join the residents of Loanhead on Saturday and enjoy Midlothian’s biggest free show.
Judging of the decorated house frontages begins at 8am. The court and guests will parade to Fountain Green at 11.30am accompanied by massed bands, prior to the Crowning Ceremony which commences at 11.45am.
The grand procession moves off from Church Street at 1pm. This is Midlothian’s largest parade and will be accompanied by 12 bands. The new Loanhead Football Heritage Banner will make its debut.
The afternoon programme in the Memorial Park starts at 1.30pm and features an extensive range of family entertainment. Highlights will include Van Buren’s Spectacular Illusion and Variety Show, Mr Alexander’s Travelling Show and Pop the Bubbleman with his amazing bubble shows.
There will be displays by the Midlothian Dog Training Club, Dalhousie Falconry and Broadsword plus performances by the Massed Pipes and Drums, Commotion Samba Band and local dance groups.
Among the free children’s entertainment will be magic shows, Punch and Judy and Cool Creatures. A new feature this year will be a craft and art fair in various marquees. There will also be a funfair and lots of stalls.
During the afternoon the queen will lay a wreath at the War Memorial with music provided by the massed silver bands.
