Edinburgh and the Lothians have been issued with a yellow weather warning by experts at the Met Office after temperatures plummeted overnight.

After a day of sleet, snow and rain on Monday coupled with the fall in temperature overnight, the warning remains in place for Tuesday morning.

Issued at 8pm on Monday evening, the warning advises drivers and pedestrians around the danger of ice on the roads and pavements.

Some roads and railways are likely to be affected, and commuters should expect journeys to take longer this morning.

There is also an increased chance of injuries due to icy pavements and cycle paths, say the Met Office.

The warning will remain in place until 10am on Tuesday.
