The areas will see a wet Monday evening from 6pm, with stormy weather taking them through to 6am on Tuesday and forecasters predict some areas could see 50mm of rainfall, with flooding likely.

In a statement on its website the Met Office said: "An area of persistent and heavy rain will spread in from the east on Monday evening, lasting much of the night before turning showery on Tuesday. 20-30 mm will fall quite widely across the area with some hilly areas possibly catching 40-50 mm.

"Further showers through the day could bring another 10-15 mm in places. With the ground already saturated, this is likely to lead to flooding in a few areas."

It comes after the wintry weather last week, with residents in Edinburgh being awoken by thundersnow on Friday.
