The Met Office predicted wintry conditions as we approached the weekend and some were not disappointed, with the image above being taken in Baberton, in the south west of Edinburgh, this morning.

However, parts of north Edinburgh, including Portobello, woke up to a completely different scene, with a resident reporting that there wasn’t even frost on the ground.

A yellow weather warning was issued on Wednesday at 3pm for snow and ice across Scotland, and will remain in place until 12pm today.

Originally the warning was due to be lifted at midnight last night in Edinburgh but forecasters extended it amid more concern of icy conditions.

A statement on the Met Office website said: “Frequent and heavy snow showers will affect the region overnight, before gradually easing during Friday morning, with many areas becoming dry in the afternoon.”

Edinburgh residents can expect freezing conditions throughout today, Friday, with sunshine in the afternoon.

Overnight and into Saturday temperatures will drop to minus two degrees before slowly rising as the day breaks.

Cloud will cover the Capital throughout tomorrow and the Met Office has predicted that we will see the temperature rise to as high as five degrees by 9pm.

Similar cloudy conditions will follow on Sunday as temperatures remain high.

Looking forward to next week, forecasters are currently predicting some wet weather but at the moment there is no risk of snow and ice as temperatures will remain above freezing.
