An image captured this morning by a member of the public shows a huge pool of water gathered in Princes Street Gardens, where the historic Nor Loch used to be.

Severe weather over the weekend from Storm Ciara caused travel to be disrupted, with Waverley Station even closing as it became overcrowded by people showing up for cancelled trains.

The Nor Loch is one of the 'lost lochs' in the Capital, and was initially a marsh at the foot of Castle Rock and became increasingly polluted before the decision was made to drain the loch in 1759.

Stephen Harte tweeted the image of the flooding and said: "Our hapless City Council appear on track for the restoration of the Norloch."

While Storm Ciara has now passed, adverse weather will continue to batter the Capital as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice which is in place until Wednesday.
