Storm Dennis: New yellow weather warning issued for Edinburgh as heavy rain and strong winds of up to 60mph set to hit

Named by the Met Office, the impacts from this low-pressure system are not expected to be as extreme as Storm Ciara but will bring widespread strong winds and heavy rain to parts of the UK.
The Met Office said: “The system will develop in the North Atlantic before tracking eastwards towards the UK and Ireland over the coming days, passing to the north of Scotland on Saturday.

Hide AdA Met Office yellow weather warning is in place for Edinburgh on Saturday (15 Feb) from 9am to 6pm.
“A band of rain and strong winds will move eastwards across southern and central Scotland on Saturday. South to southwesterly winds will gust to 50 to 60 mph along exposed coasts and over high ground,” adds the Met Office.
“In addition some heavy rainfall is expected at times with accumulations of up to 40 mm on high ground. Coupled with snow melt this may lead to some local flooding.”

Steve Ramsdale, Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office said: “Another spell of very wet and windy weather is expected for Saturday, although Storm Dennis is currently not expected to be as severe as Ciara disruption is still likely.”
Storm Dennis to hit this weekend
Edinburgh is set to see a mixture of light and heavy rain throughout the day on Saturday (15 Feb), with strong winds and a maximum temperature of 10C.
Sunday (16 Feb) will be cloudy and dry throughout, but will remain windy with a maximum temperature of 7C.

Hide AdThe Met Office forecast for Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian & Borders for Thursday (13 Feb) said: “Sleet or snow in morning, early afternoon, east coast rain, with strong northeast winds.
“Possibly disruptive snow high ground in south. Becoming drier in afternoon with some sunshine, winds easing.
“Heavy rain arriving on Friday, thaw, clearing to scattered showers. Windy. Dry start Saturday then more heavy rain, windy again. Sunshine, showers Sunday with gales or severe gales.”
