Heavy rain and strong winds are set to batter Edinburgh as Storm Francis warnings issued.

The Met Office has released a yellow weather warning for Tuesday and Wednesday.

The rain is due to start at around 7am and will continue throughout the day and into Wednesday morning.

Strong winds will hit their peak around 2pm with gusts of 38mph, the highest throughout the day.

Flood warnings are in place with the Met Office asking the public to be wary when travelling due to potential road closures as well as rail delays.

12pm: 95% chance of rain.

1pm: 95% chance of rain.

2pm: 95% chance of rain.

3pm: 95% chance of rain.

4pm: 90% chance of rain.

5pm: 90% chance of rain.

6pm: 80% chance of rain.

7pm: 90% chance of rain

8pm: 80% chance of rain.

9pm: 80% chance of rain.

10pm: 60% chance of rain.

11pm: 80% chance of rain.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Rain will affect all parts today with some heavy spells and accompanied by strong easterly winds.

“The rain will turn more showery in the afternoon with winds easing.”
