Temperatures in Edinburgh to hit 21c on Friday after wet spell - but better weather unlikely to last

The weather in Edinburgh is set to improve on Friday with dry and sunny conditions and temperatures of 21c possible – but the better weather is unlikely to last.

Met Office meteorologist Bonnie Diamond said Friday will be a “pleasant day” across most of Scotland but warned of heavy rain most likely returning on Saturday morning and the threat of scattered showers in the afternoon, although the mercury should stay up at around 20c.

She said temperatures in Edinburgh on Friday could hit 21c and that conditions should start to improve on Thursday afternoon and into the evening.

It comes after an unsettled week with grey and drizzly conditions in the city.

Ms Diamond said there will likely be some more scattered shows on Sunday with temperatures dropping to around 17c to 18c.

She said more unsettled weather is expected in the Edinburgh area next week but that this could change due to the low pressure system still being a few days away.
