The couple managed to capture the pod on camera, splashing about in the water behind the racecourse near Musselburgh Lagoons at about 2pm today.

“My wee boy was absolutely ecstatic when he saw them,” Charlotte said.

“They where coming towards shore, and they must have been looking for food because you can see them playing with a fish in the video.”

The couple said it was the first time they had seen dolphins in the area, which they regularly use as a dog walking spot.

“I’m sure there were three minimum,” she added.

“It was absolutely brilliant to see.”

The type of dolphin is unknown, but Bottlenose dolphins can be found all around the UK, with the Moray Firth in Scotland being one the best places to spot them.

They are social animals, typically found in small groups, and can live for up to 45 to 50 years.
