An institution at Whitehill Welfare, Rosewell man Peter McGauley has been much more than a club secretary over the last 50 years.
As a groundsman, treasurer and part-time barman, the 73-year-old former player finds a reason to visit the club’s ground at Ferguson Park almost every day of the week. And in terms of the everyday running of the club, and its history, there is nothing that the Rosewell pensioner does not know. For five decades, he has helped steer Whitehill from relative obscurity to the lofty heights the East of Scotland Premier League.
Asked what the club means to him, his reply tells you all you need to know. “It’s my life – ask my wife what it means to me because I am never in the house,” he jokes.
