With the council election results now declared, no one party holds overall control of Midlothian Council.
With eight Labour, eight SNP, one Green and one Independent councillor elected, negotiations will begin to establish which party will eventually govern the county.
Eight new councillors were elected - and seven are new faces, with Labour’s Bryan Pottinger having held office before.
The county has also elected its first Green councillor - Ian Baxter, while Peter de Vink joins as an Independent.
The new council will hold its first meeting on May 22, by which time it should be clear who will hold the balance of power.
