A Bonnyrigg couple who had dormer windows installed five years ago now have to remove them as they are six inches bigger than approved.
Midlothian Council has served an enforcement notice on the Robertsons because larger than expected attic windows were installed on the listed building while the couple were on holiday.
The couple informed the council of the change but subsequently had their planning permission revoked.
Yvonne Robertson said: “If we hadn’t told the council they wouldn’t know about it. Our appeal was refused but we didn’t know we could have attended – councillors didn’t get to hear our side of the story.”
A Midlothian Council spokesman said: “Following subsequent discussion with council planning officers the matter now appears to be moving towards a satisfactory resolution.”
