A concert featuring young musical talent from across the county is to be held next week to raise money for a local gala day.
The Newtongrange Gala Day Committee is hosting the concert at the Dean Tavern in the village on Friday, March 11, 7-11.30pm.
Among the youngsters performing are the Newtongrange Junior Silver Band, St Andrew and Moorfoot Primary schools, Newbattle High School choir, Lauren Pearson, Lasswade Pop Choir, Ukes of Hazard, Newbattle Rock Band, Harry Noble and Butterflies and Dragons.
The gala day committee’s chairperson Denise Gillies explained why it’s taking place. She said: “It’s just to encourage all the great young musicians we have in Midlothian. It’s about 80 kids in total. All youngsters performing. Each act will get about 20 minutes.
“So we are trying to encourage people to come along to see all the talent that Midlothian has. We are all about encouraging youngsters, not just in Newtongrange but all over Midlothian.
“We are also going to do a battle of the bands at the start of the gala week, with a recording deal as the prize.”
Gala day concert, March 11, pay at the door £3/£1.
