Youth deserve praise

i would like to take this opportunity to thank all involved in the organisation of the Olympic Torch Relay throughout Midlothian. The marshalls, police and others did a marvellous job.

I stood at Elm Row in Lasswade, the sun shone and I thoroughly enjoyed the event. I thought it was great that the village was included in the route. I felt I had witnessed a little bit of history in the making.

I was especially impressed by the exemplary behaviour of the school children within the county. Without exception, their manners were impeccable. They waited patiently to be placed at their specific standpoints and, afterwards, they made their way back up the brae and along Bonnyrigg High Street without any fuss or bother.

So many times children get a bad press for their bad behaviour. I am not an avid letter writer, but felt compelled to write and praise the youngsters on this occasion. The children are a credit to their parents and to the teaching staff.
